Environmental Responsibility

CPBL has implemented and maintains an Environmental Management System that is consistent with International Standards, that is, ISO 14001: 2004. This System forms the basis for the Company’s Environmental Policy, the identification of the Environmental Aspects of its operations, the setting of Environmental Objectives and Targets as well as Environmental Management Programs.

Two major challenges to our environmental program are that of the company’s solid and liquid waste. The impact of these is being controlled biologically through the treatment of the liquid waste via an Effluent Pond system and the conversion of the solid waste, which is the peels, pulp and seeds, into compost. Both operations are monitored on a daily basis in an effort to minimize any negative impacts on the environment. The compost fertilizer is given to farmers free of cost to improve their groves and to help them implement an organic program.

In addition to the above, the company also uses its best effort to ensure efficient utilization of its environmental resources, such as water and fuel in order to minimize the volume of waste to be treated. Where practical, waste is also recycled.
